DIGITAL PIANO PURCHASING INFO AND SUGGESTIONS

(please note that I've used links from the Australian Piano Warehouse as they have an easy to navigate website but I equally and highly recommend Piano Direct Australia and Vivace Music )

For digital pianos, there are two options,

  • portable digital pianos or
  • cabinet digital pianos.
These instruments are 88 weighted keys, have pedal/s and some to a lot of different technology features.
I recommend Yamaha, Roland, Casio, or  Kawai (in that order - though lots of students get Casio and Kawai as their first instrument...they're all good. I much prefer and recommend the Yamaha ). My favourite is the Yamaha CLP series.

I also recommend the cabinet digital piano over the portable as they are closest to the acoustic piano touch and sound and also the pedals being inbuilt make them almost the same as the acoustic piano pedals. The portable options is also very good (though please read below for the recommended setup for it).

Here are three piano shops in Brisbane to purchase digital pianos that I recommend - I've done a lot of business with Piano Warehouse so I highly recommend them.

Australian Piano Warehouse:

Piano Direct Australia:

Vivace Music:

If one store is out of stock of the model you want, you can look into a different store for availability.

I also suggest that you go to the store and try out the different options. It always helps to make the best choice when you can see the options. A piano specialist will help you look at all the options etc... and always feel free to send me the options you're thinking about and I can give you my opinion as well.

Here is what the different options mentione d above look like:

Portable Digital Pianos:

(though - you'll need to purchase set up accessories for it to look like this) + a portable stool. (more info below).

IMPORTANT:

If you go for the portable digital piano you'll need to make sure it comes with those accessories - and/or add them to your purchase package.

music stand,

sustaining/damper pedal (they don't always come included with the purchase)

and

adjustable stool

Piano adjustable stool

piano stand Portable digital pianos can also come with timber stands like those (I recommend that option more than the portable stands as you can get the pedals attached to the stand as well and a much better setup for posture and developing good technique.)

wooden fixed stand option

Fixed pedal option

I DO NOT recommend this portable stand because it does help to develop good piano posture for the student. (there is no room for the piano player's legs to sit comfortably and with proper piano-playing posture).

If you go for the cabinet digital piano, you'll probably get the stool in the package but you can see if you can get an adjustable one instead of a regular one. (my personal favourite is the Yamaha CLP series).

Please don’t hesitate to send me photos, links, or model numbers of what you’re thinking of if you’d like my opinion or help. Happy to help any time.

I don't generally recommend getting a digital instrument second hand unless you trust the source of purchase. But then I personally sold 2 perfectly great digital instruments before because I was upgrading...so there are good ones second hand out there but a bit more rare and unpredictable. If you get a second hand digital piano, try to find a newer model and make sure you are able to test try it and see it before you commit to purchasing it.

ACOUSTIC PIANOS

If you're interested in purchasing an acoustic piano. I'd recommend getting a second hand one from one of the piano stores (both those stores sell second hand pianos as well as new pianos) as they are already checked by a piano technician. If you find something on eBay or marketplace...etc. please let me know, I can recommend a good piano technician to have a look at it first. It's almost like buying second hand cars, you can get really great deals but there are others out there that would be a disaster.

Another option is the hybrid piano.

Hope this information is helpful.

All the best and please let me know if you have any questions or need any assistance in choosing the right one for you

Have a great day!
Miss Mary
